1.Angry IP Scanner:

A fun tool to check out! Angry IP Scanner (or simply ipscan) is an open-source and cross-platform network scanner designed to be fast and simple to use. It scans IP addresses and ports as well as has many other features

Simply put, It is just a way to know who all are connected to your network and which IP address is assigned to them.

2. Wireshark:

An ultimate tool. What a piece of software one has created!! Right from the bottom-est  Physical Layer to the Application Layer see the transition of bits, segments and packets. Capture packets and see what is wrong with the network or who is taking up all the bandwidth.

It lets you see what is happening on your network at a microscopic level. It is said to be one of the finest network protocol analyser.

3. Cisco Packet Tracer:

A wonderful simulator provided by Cisco to cater all your needs for configuration of switches/routers, planning and designing a network scenario, etc. It is something which anyone can download and use without the need of buying a real gear.

It is User-Friendly, UI is cool, and is very simple.

4. GNS3:

Much like Cisco Packet Tracer, but much more effective and a 'emulator' having many advantages over a classic 'simulator'.

You can perform all the actions same as that of Cisco Packet Tracer and many new added features such as you can add Virtual Box Host in the GNS3 workspace.

5. Terminal Softwares :

If you are lucky enough to have a real gear (a manageable switch/router), you will need one of the terminal software's (Clients) to manage the device.
